Dance uplifts, unites, and empowers children. Dance also provides children with an opportunity to express their individuality while developing cognitive and social skills. JAMaROO KIDs Creative movement and dance classes have been created by Jamaica Stevens to encourage young children to explore the art of movement. Classes start with a warm up circle this time is spent to warm up all the major parts of the body. Children will gain control over gross and fine motor skills. Children learn about different body parts and learn how to isolate them. Once children are warmed up there is time set aside for them to stretch and increase flexibility. Across the floor exercises allow children work on simple movement to increase coordination. Fantasy Play encourages children to find pleasure in creating their own movement. Children are encouraged to use their imagination and be innovative. Ballet Circle allows children to slow down in this fast paced class and focus on balance and strength. During Group dance children dance with partners as in a group. During this part of class children learn how to work together as a team. The Cool Down allows the teacher time to acknowledge the children for their hard work and reflect on what the children did in class. In class Children will dance to a large variety of multicultural music and will also be exposed to many different dance styles found around the world. Children will have the opportunity to use scarves, rhythm sticks, beanbags, bells, and other equipment. These drop-in classes are $10 per family.
