Tips for Indoor Play this Winter

According to a study by the EPA, the air quality in our homes is 2-5 times more toxic than the air outside (and it's worse in homes that use air fresheners!). Paints and finishes on walls, floors, and furniture can all contribute to the poor air quality in our homes. This is why it's great to look for items that specifically call out no VOCs. Phthalates are hormone disrupting chemicals in some plastic toys. They can also be found in the dust in many of our homes where babies crawl and put their hands in their mouths.

If you are going to be spending most of your time indoors this winter, here are some items that might help you breath easier, as well as keep your children entertained!

For your burgeoning sports enthusiasts:

Our (exclusive!) Sports Ball Set is plush and soft – these balls won't break any windows!

Create your own living room putting green, with a Mini Golf Set.

From rug-rats to unsteady new walkers:

The LilyPad Playmat or simply a decorative Rug is a soft place for babies to play, and so much better than VOC-emitting foam tiles.

The Bobbin Triple Play Centre will keep your little sprout from climbing the walls.

For Designers & Builders:

There are hours of fun to be had by future engineers, building & balancing with the Stepped Pyramid, Eco Bricks, or Tegu Magnetic Wood Blocks

Create a world of imaginary play inside your home:

Whether working the Fire Station or the, Airport there's always time for a Tea break!

For cleaner air:

The Molekule Air Purifier is unlike any other air purifier on the market. It uses new technology, Photo Electrochemical Oxidation (PECO), that works at the molecular level to destroy indoor air pollutants like VOCs and viruses. Developed over two decades by research scientists, the Molekule can completely replace the air in a 600 square foot room (large living room) once an hour.

If you're looking for a traditional HEPA air filter, we also recommend the Austin Air. See all our air purifiers in our Health Essentials category.

Don't forget to check out the many great events at your local Sprout store for those days when you need indoor play with a change of scenery.
